Lexus used the Los Angeles auto show to show a new generation of its midsize RX family of vehicles. Highlighting the changes are updated powertrains, an altered suspension and a fresh design.
An exhaust-heat recovery system helps reduce engine warm-up periods, enabling it to stop sooner and for longer periods. It also gets a cooled exhaust gas-recirculation system that cuts down on pumping loss.
For the hybrid models, the latest variation on the hybrid drive system is joined with a 3.5-liter V6 for a total output of 295 hp, which is 27 more horses in the new RX 450h than the current RX 400h that used a 3.3-liter engine.
The normal gas-powered RX 350 also enjoys an upgraded 3.5-liter V6 with a jump of five hp to 275 hp over the outgoing car. Besides a new inverter in the hybrid system, Lexus has added two additional systems to help improve efficiency.
